Waterfalls Krimml

Excursion destination in the Salzburger Land

Krimmler Waterfalls

With a height of 380 meters they are the fifth highest waterfalls in the world and the biggest ones in Europe. They are the only natural monument in Austria with a Europe diploma.

The Krimmler Ache river forms the origin of the Krimmler waterfalls. It starts at the end of the Krimmler valley and first of all flows softly over 20 kilometres of alpine pastures in order to reach the entry of the valley as a roaring glacier creek and to fall down the huge steps of the Krimmler waterfalls. The Krimmler Ache is a typical glacier stream with always changing water conditions. In the months June and July the water flows 30 or 40 times faster than in February. The melting water needs 9 to 12 hours from the glacier gate to the waterfalls. Consequently the maximum water flow of the day is between 9pm and 12pm. The trip to the Krimmler waterfalls can be connected very well with the planetarium and observatory in Königsleiten!

Opening hours
